Sector Head / Forward Deployed Investor

About the role

You know what separates a compelling investment thesis from a convincing story. You have built the models, challenged the assumptions, and followed the evidence. At Shortcut, you will bring that judgment into the systems that help other investors do their best work.

We are hiring three sector heads who will also serve as Forward Deployed Investors. The role spans product, customer work, and investment research: building reusable AI skills, working directly with investment teams, and testing the quality of our research. We are open to different sector backgrounds; depth of expertise and the ability to turn it into something useful matter most.

What you’ll do

• Build and refine sector-specific AI skills for company research, financial modeling, and investment analysis. Make the reasoning and quality standards behind your work explicit.
• Partner with the go-to-market team as the sector expert in customer conversations. Work alongside investment teams to understand their process and build skills around the work they actually do.
• Conduct fundamental research, develop investment hypotheses, and work with the quantitative research team on qualitative backtesting and signal evaluation.
• Help develop our simulated investment research environment, using paper portfolios to test ideas, study failures, and improve the models before they reach customers.
• Translate research findings and customer feedback into specific product improvements, and work with researchers and engineers to bring them into Shortcut.

What you’ll bring

• Substantial hands-on experience in fundamental investing or equity research, with deep knowledge of at least one sector.
• Strong financial modeling skills and a clear, evidence-based investment process that you can explain and defend.
• The ability to earn the trust of investment professionals and communicate their needs clearly to product and research teams.
• Curiosity about AI and the patience to test its outputs, identify where they fall short, and make them better.
• Comfort moving between independent research, hands-on product work, and customer conversations in a small team.
