Research Fellow
Bring your investing experience to a focused research fellowship at the intersection of finance and AI.
About the role
The best financial AI needs feedback from people who understand the work. Our research fellowship gives investment professionals a way to contribute that expertise while exploring how AI can improve research and analysis.
Over nine months, with an expected commitment of 10–15 hours per week, you will help evaluate financial research, improve the quality of training examples, and refine the skills our agents use. You will work with the team on concrete research problems and see how your judgment translates into better systems.
What you’ll do
- Review and label financial research examples, applying the standards you would use in your own investment work.
- Test AI skills on representative research and modeling tasks, and give specific feedback on their reasoning, accuracy, and usefulness.
- Help identify failure modes and develop examples that make the distinction between strong and weak analysis clear.
- Share sector and workflow expertise with our research and product teams.
What you’ll bring
- Professional experience in investing, equity research, or financial analysis, with a strong eye for the quality of research.
- The ability to explain your judgment clearly and give detailed, constructive feedback.
- Curiosity about AI and a willingness to work through repeated experiments and revisions.
- Availability for a sustained, part-time research commitment.
About the fellowship
We welcome interest from investment professionals between roles, including those on garden leave where participation is permitted by their existing obligations. Fellowship terms and eligibility are discussed individually before participation. The program can also provide a path to a full-time conversation as our team grows.
Why Shortcut
We are building AI for the detail and complexity of financial work. As part of Fundamental Research Labs, we bring research, engineering, and investment expertise together to turn ambitious ideas into tools people can use. Your work will help shape both the product and the research behind it.
