Quantitative Researcher
Develop the experiments, signals, and evaluations that turn financial AI research into measurable progress.
About the role
Financial AI needs to stand up to careful measurement. We are looking for quantitative researchers who can turn an investment question into an experiment, interrogate the result, and use what they learn to improve the next iteration.
You will work with sector specialists and AI researchers to develop signals, evaluate investment reasoning, and build a disciplined research process around simulated portfolios. Your work will connect the detail of financial data to the behavior of the agents and models we build.
What you’ll do
- Design and run experiments to evaluate investment signals, research workflows, and AI-generated financial analysis.
- Build reproducible backtests and evaluation datasets, with explicit assumptions and careful treatment of data quality, timing, and leakage.
- Partner with sector heads to translate qualitative investment hypotheses into testable research questions.
- Analyze paper-portfolio results and model failure modes. Separate repeatable improvements from noise and communicate what the evidence supports.
- Work with AI researchers and engineers to turn findings into better models, skills, and evaluation methods.
What you’ll bring
- Experience in quantitative investment research, statistical modeling, machine learning, or a closely related empirical discipline.
- Strong programming skills for data analysis and experimentation, including Python or an equivalent research stack.
- A solid understanding of statistics, experimental design, and the ways a backtest can mislead.
- The ability to work with imperfect financial data and make your methods and results reproducible.
- Independent research judgment and the ability to explain technical results to investment professionals and engineers.
Why Shortcut
We are building AI for the detail and complexity of financial work. As part of Fundamental Research Labs, we bring research, engineering, and investment expertise together to turn ambitious ideas into tools people can use. Your work will help shape both the product and the research behind it.
